International Symposium on Electrochemistry and Surface Science
in Honour of Professor Jacek Lipkowski’s 80th Birthday
University of Guelph, Guelph, Ontario, Canada, August 14–17, 2024
This international symposium is a satellite meeting of the 75th Annual Meeting of the International Society of Electrochemistry which will be held in Montreal, August 18-23, 2024. In addition, Chemistry at the University of Guelph celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2024. This special symposium highlights the recent advances in interfacial electrochemistry and surface science at atomic, molecular, and nanoscale domains. It covers a wide range of topics, including but not limited to:
- Adsorption and charge transfer
- Bioelectrochemistry
- Spectroelectrochemistry
- Advanced imaging and surface characterization techniques
- Electrochemical sensing and biosensing
- Electrocatalysis and photoelectrochemistry
- Electrochemical surface processes
- Nanomaterial synthesis and their applications in energy conversion and storage
- Quantum chemical approaches and theoretical modeling
Dr. Jacek Lipkowski
Jacek Lipkowski, with his PhD (1974) and DSc (1978) from the University of Warsaw Poland, joined the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, University of Guelph in 1983 as Associate Professor, where he was promoted to Full Professor in 1988 and Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Electrochemistry in 2001. He has been a University Professor Emeritus since 2016. Dr. Lipkowski’s research covers a broad area of interfacial electrochemistry, bioelectrochemistry and surface science. He combines electrochemical and spectroscopic techniques to study adsorption of ions and neutral molecules at electrified interfaces. He has developed chronocoulometry to measure charge density at solid electrode surfaces and in situ photon polarization infrared reflection spectroscopy to study thin organic films at electrode surfaces. For his significant contributions, Dr. Lipkowski has received many national and international awards, including Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Electrochemistry, John C. Polanyi Award of the Canadian Society for Chemistry, Gold Medal of the Canadian Section of The Electrochemical Society (ECS), E.B. Yeager Award of the ECS, Jaques Tacussel Prize, Bioelectrochemistry Award, Gold Medal and Frumkin Memorial Medal of the International Society of Electrochemistry. In addition, Dr. Lipkowski has been elected as Fellow of the Chemical Institute of Canada, Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, Killam Fellow, Foreign Fellow of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and Fellow of the International Society of Electrochemistry.
